ICE Mortgage Technology vs Valon (2026)

Last VerifiedOctober 13, 2026
Verdict

Servicers weighing these two are deciding whether to stay on the servicing system of record most of the industry already runs, or move to one rebuilt around agents. ICE Mortgage Technology's MSP is the incumbent. ICE says it services more active loans than any other system, it handles conventional, agency, home equity, balloon and daily simple interest loans on one platform, and its default suite covers loss mitigation, bankruptcy, foreclosure and claims. Valon built ValonOS by running its own servicer on it for six years, then sold that business and opened the software to the industry. It is live at two of the ten largest United States servicers, and Valon says one in six mortgages is signed up to run on it. The AI sits at different stages. Ditto, Valon's agent, already handles homeowner communications, escrow analysis, complaint research and payment reallocations for customers. ICE's servicing voice and chat agents are still being tested, though ICE has published a training data disclosure for the pilot and keeps cash movement, escrow disbursement and investor remittance as actions a person authorizes. Neither names the model behind its agents.

Select ICE Mortgage Technology if
  • The portfolio mixes first liens with home equity lines, balloon loans or daily simple interest loans. MSP services first mortgages and home equity products on a single system across a long list of loan types.
  • Origination already runs on Encompass. Newly originated loans board into MSP automatically from the loan origination system, so a closed file is not rekeyed for servicing.
  • Default work is a large share of the operation. MSP's default suite covers loss mitigation, collections, invoicing, claims, bankruptcy and foreclosure, with servicer defined rules automating the bankruptcy and foreclosure tasks.
  • Dozens of vendors have to stay connected through a conversion. More than 400 providers already exchange data with ICE's servicing technology over its InterChange network, alongside its application programming interfaces.
Select Valon if
  • Leadership wants agents doing servicing work now rather than after a pilot. Ditto already handles homeowner communications, escrow analysis, complaint research and payment reallocations at ValonOS customers.
  • Reconciling ledgers eats operations time. ValonOS keeps multi party accounting ledgers, money movement and the loan record in one system, so payments and tax bills post against a single source of truth.
  • Examiners keep asking who did what on a loan. Every material action in ValonOS keeps its actor, time, approval and underlying record, and agents work under the same permissions and audit trail as staff.
  • A platform proven on a servicer's own books matters more than a long client list. Valon ran its own mortgage servicer on ValonOS for six years before selling that business and opening the software to others.

In Summary

The short version of each

ICE Mortgage Technology

ICE Mortgage Technology, the mortgage division of Intercontinental Exchange, sells software across the United States home loan lifecycle: Encompass for origination, MSP for servicing, Simplifile for recording, Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems (MERS) registration and the McDash loan level database. MSP connects through application programming interfaces, and its InterChange electronic data interchange network links more than 400 providers to ICE's servicing technology. ICE Aurora embeds agents in these workflows. In the AI FinTech Index, its training data disclosure for the pilot servicing chatbot is the more specific AI document in this pair.

Valon

Valon sells ValonOS, a mortgage servicing system of record that holds multi party accounting ledgers, servicing data models, reporting, workflows and compliance logic in one place, where payments and tax bills are applied. Newrez, Carrington Mortgage Services and ServiceMac have signed on, with more than $200 billion in loans serviced on the platform. Ditto, its native agent, researches escrow and tax questions before drafting a homeowner reply, investigates credit reporting disputes and learns new processes from each servicer's own workflows. SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 examinations are listed as completed.

Buyer Questions

Common questions

Is either servicing AI live with customers today?

Valon's is. Ditto launched to ValonOS customers this year. ICE's voice and chat agents for servicing are still being tested, with a pilot version dated March 2026, while AI assistants built into MSP already automate routine servicing workflows and leave exceptions for human review. Graded by AI FinTech Index against the same capability axes from each vendor's own published materials, verified October 13, 2026. No vendor pays for placement.

What can the agents do without a person?

ICE treats cash movement, escrow disbursement and investor remittance as actions a person authorizes, and its chat and voice channels escalate to a live agent. Valon's agents read, draft and route work under the servicer's existing approval policy and permissions, with responsibility for the decision staying with the servicer. Neither publishes the threshold that sends a case to staff. Graded by AI FinTech Index against the same capability axes from each vendor's own published materials, verified October 13, 2026. No vendor pays for placement.

How large is each platform?

ICE says MSP services more active loans than any other mortgage servicing system. Valon puts more than $200 billion in loans on its platform and says one in six United States mortgages is signed up to run on ValonOS. Graded by AI FinTech Index against the same capability axes from each vendor's own published materials, verified October 13, 2026. No vendor pays for placement.

What do servicers still have to request from both?

Model disclosure and price. Neither names the language model behind its agents or publishes accuracy figures for them, and neither prints a price; ICE says the cost of a servicing system depends on portfolio size and the solutions a servicer needs. Graded by AI FinTech Index against the same capability axes from each vendor's own published materials, verified October 13, 2026. No vendor pays for placement.

Disclosure

ICE Mortgage Technology is a division of Intercontinental Exchange, which acquired MSP with Black Knight in 2023. Valon sold its own servicing business to focus on ValonOS. Valon's customer and volume figures, and ICE's claim about MSP's share of active loans, are each company's own.
